A feast for the eyes
Vollkorn came into being as my first type designing attempt. I published the Regular on my site → grafikfritze.de in 2005 under a Creative-Commons-License. Until the counter finally collapsed two years later it had been downloaded thousands of times and used for web and print matters. It intends to be a quiet, modest and well working text face for bread and butter use. Unlike its examples in the book faces from the renaissance until today, it has dark and meaty serifs and a bouncing and healthy look. It might be used as body type as well as for headlines or titles. »Vollkorn« (pronounced »Follkorn«) is German for »wholemeal« which refers to the old term »Brotschrift«. It stood for the small fonts for every day use in hand setting times.
The font family
For now Vollkorn supports English, German, Spanish, French, Scandinavian, Italian and more languages. It comes in two weights Normal and Bold (in fact, it’s a bit bolder!), each in Antiqua and Italic.
Free under the Open Font License
The OFL allows, free of charge, the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves. The fonts, including any derivative works, can be bundled, embedded, redistributed and/or sold with any software provided that any reserved names are not used by derivative works. The fonts and derivatives, however, cannot be released under any other type of license. The requirement for fonts to remain under this license does not apply to any document created using the fonts or their derivatives. Notice also the → OFL FAQ!

Vollkorn for Web
You can use Vollkorn in the Web through Google’s Font API. Simply copy the code from the Google Font Directory into your webpage and have Vollkorn on your and your visitors’ screens.

For now you can download the TrueType-Versions of Vollkorn Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold-Italic. Please have a look at the license included. A PostScript-OpenType-Version and small caps are planned.

Echt ein sehr schöner und wirklich sehr angenehm zu lesender Zeichensatz – Könnte meinen bisherigen Favoriten Times New Roman ablösen.
Was mir allerdings nicht so gut gefällt ist, daß die Ziffern nicht auf einer Linie sind.
(Muß/soll das so?)
Gibt’s davon auch eine Metafont-Datei zwecks Einbindung in LaTeX?

eine LaTeX-Version ist nicht in Planung, aber es gibt meines Wissens Module, mit denen man übliche Outline-Schriften in LaTeX nutzen kann.
Die Ziffern sind für viele das schönste an der Vollkorn – die sollen so!

Wirklich gelungene Schrift – sehr schöne Mediävalziffern, korrekte Rechenzeichen und sogar das große Eszett!
Vermissen tue ich nur das Fuß-/Zollzeichen (Unicode 2032/33) und die tiefgestellte 2 (Unicode 2082)

Actually, to support french, you must have “œ”, “Œ”, “ÿ” und “Ÿ”. Could you add these characters so that the font is usable for french documents?

Fantastische Arbeit, ein sehr sympatischer Font! Kommt auf jeden Fall in die engere Auswahl für mein Thesis-Projekt (CD für ein Gymnasium mit landwirtschaftlicher Ausrichtung, da passt der Name doppelt).

Danke, für diese großartige Schrift! Planst du die Sonderzeichen Ŝ, ŝ, Ĝ, ĝ, Ŭ, ŭ, Ĵ, ĵ, Ĉ, ĉ, Ĥ und ĥ noch hinzuzufügen? Da das ja, vom ŭ mal abgesehen, nur Zusammensetzungen aus ^ und dem jeweiligen Buchstaben sind, sollte das ja eigentlich kein großes Problem sein. :)
Was mir außerdem noch fehlt ist eine Möglichkeit ohne dieses blöde Pay Pal zu spenden. >:O

Oh, die ist wirklich schön: Bodenständig und trotzdem elegant.
Für meine Zwecke (multilingualer Schriftsatz) fehlen leider noch die Griechen und Kyrillisch… aber das wäre jetzt ja ein bisschen viel verlangt ;-)

Ich bin ein großer Fan von der Vollkorn und habe auch schon anderen von dieser vorgeschwärmt.
Aktuell würde ich sie am liebsten in einem Buchprojekt für den Fließtext verwenden, doch da dort öfters mal der Name des ehemaligen Bauhäuslers “Selman Selmanagić” auftaucht, ist sie zur Zeit leider unbrauchbar. Da in diesem Werk auch Open Design behandelt werden wird würde die Vollkorn optimal passen. Finde auch nirgendwo eine so knackige Alternative.
Für ein “ć” wäre ich sehr dankbar :)
Das »ć« wird in der nächsten Version enthalten sein, versprochen.
